Watch: How AMC Provides World-Class Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Care
Every pet owner dreads that moment — something is clearly wrong, and your regular vet's office is closed. What happens next can mean the difference between life and death.
The only veterinary facility in NYC with the highest trauma designation. If your pet is hit by a car, falls from a window, or suffers any critical injury — this is where they need to be.
Christmas morning. 3 AM on a Tuesday. It doesn't matter. AMC's emergency department is fully staffed with specialists around the clock, every single day of the year.
Oncology, neurology, cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology — and more. Your pet never needs to be transferred. Everything is here.
These aren't general practitioners. They're specialists who've completed years of advanced residency training. Your pet gets the same caliber of expertise as a top human hospital.
Completed in December 2025, AMC's transformed facility features the most advanced veterinary diagnostic and surgical technology available anywhere in the country.
As a 501(c)(3), AMC exists for one reason: your pet's health. No shareholders, no profit motive — just 120 years of world-class veterinary medicine driven by compassion.
No referral is needed for emergency visits — walk in 24/7. For specialty appointments, a referral from your primary vet is helpful for continuity of care but is not always required. Call (212) 838-8100 and our team will guide you.
AMC provides specialist-level and emergency care, which is inherently more involved than a routine vet visit. Costs vary depending on the condition and treatment required. As a nonprofit, AMC reinvests every dollar back into patient care, research, and education — not shareholder profits. We also offer payment plans and work with pet insurance providers.
Come directly to AMC at 510 East 62nd Street, New York, NY 10065. Our emergency department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. No appointment needed. If you can, call (212) 838-8100 on the way so our team can prepare for your arrival.
AMC has 20+ medical specialties including: Emergency & Critical Care, Oncology (cancer), Neurology, Cardiology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Rehabilitation, Avian & Exotic Medicine, and more. Every specialist is board-certified.
Yes. AMC has a dedicated Avian & Exotic Pet Service staffed by board-certified specialists experienced with birds, reptiles, small mammals, and other exotic species. This level of exotic animal specialty care is rare and sets AMC apart.
Level 1 is the highest trauma center designation, meaning AMC has the resources, staff, and equipment to treat the most severe and complex injuries 24/7. This includes immediate access to surgeons, advanced imaging, blood products, and intensive care — just like a Level 1 human trauma center. AMC is the only veterinary facility in NYC with this designation.
AMC works with all major pet insurance providers. While payment is typically collected at the time of service, our team can provide the documentation you need for reimbursement from your insurance company. We recommend contacting your provider to understand your coverage before your visit.
